THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK

From a stretcher in the back of an ambulance to solid ground. Michael's story.

This isn't a success story packaged for marketing. It's a real account of fifteen years in the dark, one determined decision that changed everything, and what was discovered on the long road back to the light.

THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK

From the ambulance
floor to solid ground.
Michael's story.

This isn't a success story packaged for marketing. It's a real account of fifteen years in the dark, one decision that changed everything, and what was discovered on the long road back to the light.

It started with a breakdown while driving home from a roadtrip in Mexico.

Michael was in his early thirties, and travelling back home from a surf trip to Baja, Mexico with the love of his life when something cracked open. Some call it a nervous breakdown. It wasn't very dramatic at first - more like a quiet unravelling, a sense that the ground beneath him had suddenly shifted and gone soft. Like rock shifting into sand kind of soft. He didn't know what was happening. Clearly nobody had ever given him a map for this kind of terrain.

"It suddenly began to feel less like living and more like surviving.
And some days, not even that."

What followed were several months of intensifying mood swings, anxiety, hypervigilance, hyperarousal, increasing confusion and disorientation - all the hallmarks of psychosis, PTSD and more. He thought he was losing his mind. The final straw was the panic attacks that arrived without warning and left him wrung out, frightened and confused for hours afterward. One in particular dropped in so suddenly that it delivered him to swiftly to a hospital emergency room in the back of an ambulance. During this episode Michael felt pretty damn confused and completely alone with something he couldn't name. The weeks that followed became a confused blur of continuous mental and emotional overwhelm to the extent that he could no longer clearly see who, what or where he was.

In the middle of it all, he woke up one morning and said "Enough! Something has got to change!"

JULY 2006 . THE TURNING POINT

One morning - in the midst of all of the confusion and noise - Michael woke up and made a concrete decision. Not a hopeful one. A determined one. He swore to himself that he would not stop until he truly understood how he had arrived at such a dire state of existence. And he made a second commitment: to share everything he found with anyone else in the same position.

Between the ages of 30 to 45, Michael continued to live inside what he would later come to call the valley. Although life went on, chronic anxiety and frequent bouts of depression continued to surface and wreak havoc in many areas of his life. It produced bone-deep sense of confusion about who he was and what he was actually meant to be doing with his life. The dreams he'd had in his twenties slowly went quiet, fading as background static amongst all the noise. However, as he moved forward through the darkness, he never lost sight of his aim.

He tried what most people try. He talked to professionals. He read the books. He managed, coped and stumbled his way through life while trying to give everything he had to everyone around him — but quietly continued to starve from the absence of peace, equanimity and joy that he somehow knew was his birthright.

Ten years of study. Ten years of refinement.

What followed was one of the most intensive personal research projects you could imagine. Michael took a deep dive into biology, psychology, neuroscience, human learning and behavior, emotional intelligence, spiritual traditions and personal development — not as an academic exercise, but as a man trying to reach understanding in order to win back his own life.

He didn't just read. He lived the material. Every framework he encountered was tested against his own experience. Every practice was tried, modified, discarded or deepened depending on what actually worked in the real world — not in a controlled study, but in a life with bills and relationships and bad days and setbacks.

Ten years of study. Followed by ten more years of quiet consolidation — sitting with what he'd learned, letting it integrate, watching it bear fruit.

"Anxiety, I eventually understood, is not a problem to fix. Despite all of the illusions, it is a doorway. The real question is this - What is on the other side? "

The birth of Change Your Mind.

Change Your Mind wasn't born from a business plan. It was born from a promise. The commitment Michael made to himself in July 2006 — to understand and then to share — eventually led him here.

The work he does isn't therapy. It isn't coaching in the traditional sense. It's the distillation of two decades of lived experience, rigorous study and genuine transformation into a practical, spiritually grounded path that treats anxiety not as a disorder but as a signal from a sensitive, often gifted inner world that simply hasn't been given the right tools for expression as a lived experience.

The name of the program — Change Your Mind — is chosen deliberately. Because that's where the work happens. Not in the circumstances of your life, but in the way you see them. Not in fixing what's broken, but in discovering that far less was broken than you ever believed.

THE THREE-STEP PATH

1) Change Your Mind. Reshape the beliefs and patterns that keep you stuck. 2) Raise Your State. Build daily practices that elevate your energy from the inside out. 3) Live The Change. Discover what it actually feels like to inhabit your life fully — with purpose, calm and real forward movement.

This work is for you if you recognise yourself in any of it.

If you're sensitive, creative, deeply empathetic — if you feel more than most people around you seem to — if you've spent years wondering why it's so much harder for you than it appears to be for everyone else — you're in the right place.

You haven't been given the wrong life. You've been given a life that requires a different set of tools. And that's exactly what this work provides.
